Carpet Cleaning with Hot Water Extraction or 'Steam' Cleaning
carpet steam cleaning New York City In this method, a hot cleaning solution is sprayed with a pressure gun onto the carpet and then immediately extracted with a specialized wet vacuuming system. The dirty solution is usually collected in a tank and then disposed of later. Because the method applies hot liquid at high pressures, it has the ability to flush out large amounts of soil and contaminants in carpet. For this reason, it is the most preferred method by all of the major fiber producers, such as Dupont, Monsanto and Allied Signal, as well as the carpet manufacturers like, Shaw, Mohawk, World, and Queen. It is also favored by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC). One disadvantage, however, is that there are much longer drying times and the cleaning technician needs to be careful not to over wet the carpet. Regardless, it should be taken into consideration that most carpet warranties require this type of cleaning every 18 months in order to retain the warranty coverage.

Carpet Cleaning with Shampoo

In cleaning with shampoo, rotary brushes dispel a liquid into the carpet. This liquid is pushed into the carpet and turned to foam as the rotary brushes agitate the carpet and the liquid. The agitation motion helps loosen dirt and soil and traps it within the shampoo. After the shampoo dries, a vacuum is used to extract the dry shampoo along with the attached dirt and soil. The downside of this method is that it requires a slightly longer drying time than hot water extraction.

Carpet Cleaning with a Combination of Hot Water Extraction and Shampoo
As the name implies, this method uses the Hot Water Extraction method and Shampoo. This method is especially effective for cleaning highly soiled carpets, with heavy oil/soil build-up. The process has two steps:

  • Shampoo using rotary brush to loosen soil
  • Hot Water Extraction using water rather than detergent solution to remove shampoo

Carpet Cleaning with Foams
Carpet cleaning with foams is an effective low moisture, rapid drying method that has been used for decades.  This method is similar to the carpet cleaning with shampoo in that rotary brushes are used to agitate the carpet pile.  However, in the dry foam method, the solution is whipped into foam before applying onto the carpet. Once the carpet is dry, the residue containing suspended soil is simple vacuumed away. Since foam uses little water, there is no danger of over wetting. But due to the same reason, this method is not as effective as the "wetter" methods!

Carpet Cleaning using Bonnet Cleaning
Bonnet cleaning is similar to shampooing in that it involves more liquid form of cleaning solution. Detergent solution is spritzed onto the carpet. An absorbent pad (bonnet) is attached to the bottom of a rotary machine and run over the carpet. The dirt and soil is attracted to the pad as the bonnet moves over the dirtied areas. When the bonnet gets dirty, it is replaced or washed and used to remove more dirt.

Carpet Cleaning with Absorbent Dry Compound
Absorbent granules containing dry cleaning solvent are sprinkled over a carpet section and worked into the carpet fibers by using either a mechanical or hand brush. The granules dissolve and absorb oils and greasy soil. After the carpet is completely dried, vacuuming is used to extract the dirt and soil. The main advantages of this method are the short drying time, the effective spot cleaning, and it's careful handling of delicate and non-colorfast carpets. However, because the granules do not dissolve deeply into the carpet, it may not be able to deep clean a carpet. It is also imperative that the technicians completely remove all particles or future problems can occur.

In-Plant Carpet Cleaning
This type of Carpet Cleaning is ideal for specialized cleaning of loose or valuable rugs. The rugs are sent through a duster which extracts soil more effectively than routine vacuuming. They are then washed and hung to dry in a controlled air environment.

The Firm may also offer special service for repair of valuable rugs, using special equipment.
